Leadership at Code for Denver is relatively flat. We try to work as equals, and while there are some tasks that are necessary for the organization to continue existing, the tasks you work on are up to you. Something will come up, and we'll see who raises their hand to take it on. It's simple that way.

Leadership Roles

Most brigades and organizations have various roles to help with specific tasks. At Code for Denver we have just a few specialized roles, and then an umbrella role that can take on any of the others when needed.

Organizers

This is a shared position of leadership in the organization that leads the whole community. Organizers commit to developing a sustainable civic technology community in collaboration with our partners, championing organization activities in their city, and recruiting and managing a core leadership team. They will be flexible enough to take on any of the other roles, and will occasionally do those duties as well. They will manage the relationships with the organization’s funders and sponsors. They will manage the finances of the brigade.

Core Team Members

Core Team Members are important to the organization to diversify and distribute responsibilities in order to be more sustainable and more effective as a unit. Core Team Members work with the Organizers to lead specific areas of the organization.

Meeting Facilitator (up to 2)

Outreach & Partner Lead (up to 2)

Product Lead (up to 2)

Term Limits

Committing to 4 months of meetings and organizational work is the minimum term of any role. The terms are indefinitely renewable, up to the role holder’s discretion. There will be a re-commitment during the 3rd month of service, and if someone wants to give up the role or move to another role, the organizers will start recruiting for someone to backfill that position.

Accounts, Permissions, Access

These are the accounts and places you should get administrative, ownership, or sometimes just simple access to. This is mostly a checklist for the leadership granting this access, but also helps to serve as a way to know what you should have in case you find you don't.
